Kasey D. Huebner

Kasey Huebner is a shareholder with Mills Meyers Swartling who has represented clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout Washington. Kasey’s practice focuses on the areas of employment law; representation of policyholders in coverage and bad faith disputes; litigation related to fiduciaries, trusts, and estates; and a variety of other litigation matters. She has successfully represented national corporations, local businesses, government entities, and individuals in numerous complex cases. She also served as the Chair of the Washington State Bar Association’s Litigation Section and taught civil procedure and pre-trial practice courses at the University of Washington School of Law.

Representative Work

    • Successful representation of clients and settlement in numerous insurance coverage and bad faith cases.

    • Representation of trust beneficiary at trial related to reformation of trust and estate documents in which opposing party conceded at the close of our case.

    • Representation of Fortune 100 company in federal court product liability trial, resulting in a hung jury.

    • Represented plaintiff in a lawsuit involving breach of fiduciary duties and failure to account brought against an attorney-in-fact and the attorney-in-fact’s business. Achieved a favorable summary judgment in excess of $1,000,000 against defendants, as well as an award of attorneys’ fees and costs of nearly $200,000.

    • Achieved summary judgment on behalf of defendant jobsite owner in case involving on-the-job injuries to a contractor’s employee.

    • Achieved a defense verdict at a jury trial addressing alleged defamation by an elected official.

    • Drafted amicus brief in support of petition for review to the Washington Supreme Court in case involving ethical issues related to attorney control over client funds under the Rules of Professional Conduct.

    • Achieved summary judgment dismissal on behalf of defendant in employment lawsuit and successfully defended summary judgment on appeal.

    • Achieved summary judgment in favor of defendant airline.

    • Briefed winning motion for summary judgment, which achieved dismissal of claims against defendant based on spoliation of evidence and lack of evidentiary support for product liability claims. Also briefed winning opposition to co-defendant’s attempt to appeal the trial court’s summary judgment decision.
